  • Understand and respond to simple questions: You’ll demonstrate your comprehension skills by accurately answering the examiner’s questions.

This initial interaction provides the examiner with a baseline for assessing your overall English language proficiency throughout the remaining parts of the test.

Tips for Part 1:

Part 1 will allow the examiner to make an initial judgment, all parts after this will be weighed against this judgment so it is important to:

  • Paraphrase: Try to rephrase the examiner’s questions in your own words and use a variety of vocabulary to answer.
  • Use a variety of Connectors: These will help show your coherence by showing the examiner you can organize your ideas effectively.
  • Use Different Grammatical Structures: Demonstrate your range of grammar by using different sentence structures, such as simple, compound, and complex sentences.
  • Speak at a Steady Natural Pace: Avoid speaking too quickly or too slowly. Maintain a natural and comfortable speaking pace.
  • Speak Clearly: Ensure your pronunciation is clear and easy to understand.
